July 3-9, 2023 – Kraków, Poland
A week-long sacred music conference in English
This is our leading project created for people in love with liturgical music. Join us for this week-long conference in the heart of the ancient capital of Poland, beautiful Kraków. Being aware that music is a vital element of the liturgy, we care both about its traditions and setting new directions for its organic development.
Each year during the Octave of Easter the Church reads the scriptural accounts of the disciples’ encounters with their Risen Lord. One of the Twelve, Thomas, even earned his nickname (“Doubting Thomas”) because of his initial skepticism toward the news of Jesus’ possible resurrection: “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” But it was to him that Jesus appeared directly and invited him to verify the reality of his presence.
“Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
We know how this story ended. Thomas professed his faith in the risen Christ: “My Lord and my God!”. But the very process of wrestling with doubts, asking questions, seeking signs and credible arguments may be something we all identify with.
This is the reason why we chose St. Thomas the Apostle as the patron saint of this year’s Extraordinary Music Workshop and his profession of faith as both the title and the leitmotif of our week-long sacred music conference. Not to mention that his feast day falls on July 3 which happens to be the first day of the workshop.
You are invited to the 2023 Extraordinary Music Workshop with the Dominican Friars of Krakow, Poland! The dates are July 3-9, 2023 – and the Online Signup Form is now available!

See what our participants said about the 2022 edition:
All around a fantastic experience – even though we were very busy, it was a great way to pack a ton of learning into a short amount of time. I hope to be able to return next year, but even if I can’t I will be advertising the workshop to all my musically-inclined friends.

United StatesI spontaneously signed up for this workshop after hearing about it from Dominican friends and I am so pleased I did: it was enriching, mentally, spiritually and musically. I want to say a big 'Thank You!’ to Fr. Lukasz and team for their heroic work in the preparation and execution of this week, for it surely required tremendous effort from many people. However, as we know, it’s team-work to get into Heaven and in this regard, it was a great joy to be united in prayer and song with so many other good souls – surely a foretaste of Heaven!

IrelandI found the workshop intense (in a good way) and fun. Well worth the time investment. I would definitely come again.

RomaniaI absolutely loved the week of workshops, meeting beautiful new friends, meeting Dominicans, who I have never had any opportunity to meet in Australia, and just being around like-minded Catholic individuals. I loved how the friars wished to spend time with us outside of our workshops, and I feel to have created a wonderful bond with the international group. I am SOOO grateful to have had the opportunity to come to Krakow. I feel it was a real God send! Thank you so much!!!

Our Faculty
Optional workshop with Baroque music from Jesuit missions in South America
Do you remember a 1986 movie The Mission about the experiences of a Jesuit missionary in 18th-century South America? A native community of Guarani is shown there as having a highly developed musical culture, blending some of their own traditions with Baroque European influences. In fact, Baroque music thrived in the jungles and grasslands as well as in any one of the old colonial cities of Latin America, from Mexico City or Bogotá down to Lima, Santiago de Chile or Córdoba in the south. The treasures of this repertoire were in recent decades brought out of obscurity due to the work of musicologists like a Polish scholar-priest, Fr. Piotr Nawrot.
During this year’s Extraordinary Music Workshop we would like to invite you to discover the fresh beauty of this fascinating music. Our teacher will be an Argentinian conductor, music director and vocalist, José Vidal. The price of the workshop is included in your participation fee. There will be three evening rehearsals, Tuesday through Thursday 8 PM – 9:30 PM, and a concert / prayerful presentation at the Basilica of Corpus Christi, one of the most stunning Baroque interiors in Krakow, on Friday night.
José Vidal was born in Salta, Argentina in 1993. He currently works as a music director and vocalist. In 2018 he finished his studies of Orchestral Conducting at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. Afterwards he moved to Poland to continue his studies in Orchestral Conducting. In 2022 he graduated with master’s degree in Orchestra Conducting from the Academy of Music in Krakow, under the guidance of Maestro Łukasz Borowicz. Parallel to his conducting studies, he studies vocal technique. He is currently settled in Krakow, where he works as a vocalist in the Polish Radio Choir. At the same time, he works on his own freelance musical projects. His interests are oriented to the diffusion of music from South America.
